Frontier Daze #27

 Wairua,

That was pretty crazy, wasn't it? You were on standby in a Hound, I was just out in a wee Crucifier, but that was just, flat out, spitting the dummy. Especially when the third party showed up, I figured we were screwed, but they ended up rebalancing what looked like an ugly slugfest. It ended up a glorious slugfest, and we paid heavily for securing our objective, so I won't say "we won", but we outlasted the assault.

I was a little relieved that they called for a DPS fleet doctrine I couldn't fly, since I'd just lost that Leshak for the Armor timer, and replacing that left me skint for the foreseeable future. So I jumped into an EWAR frig, figuring that if most of the ratbags were going to be in Tempests, a tracking/optimal disruption Crucifier would be of choice utility to blunt their dps a bit.

My afterburner was on the whole time, orbiting in the pack of subcapitals and disrupting the targets called by the FC, and a few targets that looked ripe for optimal range disruption, like the couple Leshaks and Paladins on the field. I had drones out, too, pestering a few targets, but that was really the only DPS I was lending to the effort. I was more keen as to munt the enemy fleet's cap and subcap DPS.

The Cruci got targeted a few times, neuted out a couple times, and was taking some damage before I warped out, one time being in about 10% structure by the time I was able to disengage. One of the Logi mates saved my bacon once with some well-timed armor reps as I was trying to warp out at one point. Most times once targeted and taking fire, I'd warp out to a POCO, bounce to tether on one of our other structures, repair a bit, then warp back to fleet to keep the EWAR going.

The wee ship stayed in once piece through the end of the engagement, one of the benefits of being tiny in a battle of giants. Others paid a much higher price to attack or defend the objective, but we made a cracker defense of it in the end, and saved the structure.

Keep studying the Cyno, Tempest doctrine skills, and start thinking about Recon ships. As for me, more of the battleship variety skills, Marauders, maybe BLOPS and then.. Dreads. I just got a choice Revelation SKIN license from Capricious Content Packaging, so that's a sign, right?

Cheers,

Dad
