Pirata Diebus #17
Dear Wairua,
Stink one that Lumi's too busy to come on a family tramping trip with us, but I know she's doing important yakka. She'd actually helped a mate from our old Citadelphia corp, who didn't know us back then, and the mates there were keen as to know who she was. I just told them about her mission, and left it at that. I know she's looking for some renewed funding, so I'll talk to my brother to see if he's flush.
I bent/broke an old rule of mine this past week. Usually, if I warp to an anomaly or combat site, and someone else is already busy as running it, I just leave them to it. Extending the same courtesy that I'd like (but seldom get) from other pilots. Actually, I've found that the farther you get from Jita, the more genteel punters tend to be.
This week, I was roaming in a Gila I'd set up to pillage Sansha sites (added EM and Thermal shield hardeners) and I ended up bending/breaking my rule. I'd chased a Drone escalation to this one system in Devoid, and so before warping to the site, I scanned down all the other sigs in the system. I scanned down a couple wormholes, a Drone site, and a Sansha mining colony. The Sansha mining colony is tough, but doable in the Gila; you just maximize your transversal, bang all the frigates down while the medium drones do their work. Sansha's are a little more drone-hungry, so I really pay attention to my drones.
So I warp to the gate to the Sansha site, and I squiz a Corax (missile-based Caldari destroyer) on DScan, and pop in just to see how the little guy is doing. Now, I could see the logic in it; missiles, plus some speed tank and resistance mods, and this might work. I slide into the first gate, and this punter, in the Corax, has cleared 2/3rd of the first zone. I tell him good luck, in the local chat relay, and speed off to my escalation site. I'm a nice guy.
I finished the escalation site, salvaged the drone flotsam, and then looked back to the scanning display. That Sansha site was STILL on scan; the punter in the Corax didn't finish it yet. I warped back to the entry gate and slid into the first zone, thinking he'd either gotten carked, or got overwhelmed and bailed. When I got in there, I squiz the Corax just ambling about, looting the trash from the wrecks, and probably letting his munted shield recharge. I started slowly burning for the gate to the next zone, and this punter didn't get the hint to keep moving along. so I hit the afterburner, loaded my choice missiles, and took the gate.
I hit the second zone, and flat out grabbed aggro, flanked right for transversal, locked on the surpervisor's ship and let fly with missiles and light drones (to evade frigate fire). Supervisor was about halfway munted when the other punter's Corax got on-grid. Now, the huge ball was still aggroing on me , and I was kiting them around right, and was on the opposite side of the grid when the Corax landed.
He starts carking frigates as I finish off the Supervisor's ship. Right away, inexplicably, the whole fleet turned their aggro on the Corax, while I slid in, looted the Supervisor's wreck. On my way to the wreck, I carked a few more frigates to help the punter out, but as soon as I grabbed the loot, I aligned and bailed flat out. I feel a little bung about it, but I did snag a mean Sansha webbing mod, which was better loot than I'd gotten from earlier sites. I hope Corax boy got out sweet as, as his theory was probably sound, if not the painfully long way to run that site.
Long story short; I'm a bad man, son. A slightly richer man, but a bad man nonetheless.
Yours,
Koroua
