Work Daze #21
Plemyannik,
I have much worked on some khoroshiy guideline for miners, and your father is helping with words. We will send these to miners killed by terrorizirovat' gankers with small penisy:
This guide hopes to see you safely to and from your chosen asteroids. Mining security is a necessity, and requires a conscious effort at situational awareness. These tips are good for not only High-Security (HighSec) space, but for Low or Null spaces as well.NEVER mine while AFK (away from keyboard, computer, or just generally while you’re doing something else). You may get away with it once, or for a whole week, but inevitably, someone will wreck you while you’re not looking.
ALWAYS fit your ship properly for the task at hand, with a priority on keeping yourself safe. That means knowing how your ship is tanked best, and plugging any resistance holes in shields, armor. Don’t add an armor or hull repairer to a shield-tanked ship (most miners). Shield extenders are almost always better than shield boosters, and a shield hardener is a good thing if you have an extra slot available. Core Defense Extender, and an EM Shield Reinforcement rigs are also a good bonus to have.
ALWAYS have your Local Chat tab visible, at least so much as you can see who is in the same system with you. You can compress to names only, showing more pilots in a shorter list, and if you’ve previously marked them as potential danger, it will show them with a red icon.
ALWAYS have your Directional Scan (DScan) window on your HUD, set to 14.3 AU and 360 degree visibility. Mash the ‘Scan’ button, or hotkey, often if you aren’t alone in the system (see rule #3). IF you see Catalysts, Coercers, or Thrashers on DScan, it’s time to get out. However, there are ships that will not show up in DScan, which leads us to..
ALWAYS look up anyone you don’t know in the system with you. Right-click on the name, select ‘show info’ and see their: Security Status (negative numbers mean trouble), Bio (might announce their hostile worldviews), and the Corp and Alliance they’re associated with.
DO YOUR RESEARCH on the systems you want to mine in. Who hunts miners there, both individuals and corps/alliances, and what time do they usually hunt. You can look up individuals, corps and alliances on https://zkillboard.com/ to see what they hunt, using what ships, and when. Add them as a contact (either individually, or the whole corp/alliance, because ‘birds of a feather..’) with a red/danger mark, and then watch for them in-system while you mine.
ALWAYS be ready to jump to safety, or dock up, when trouble does show up. Mine at near the limit of your lasers, outside the belt (>25 Km away from any beacon), with a straight, unimpeded view of your safe spot/station. If someone does warp in on you (which you should already see them coming with DScan) forget your drones, just warp out.
ALWAYS have fun! Getting ganked sucks, but evading hostiles can be a thrill of its own. Just give a ‘\o’ wave in local chat as you speed away..
What do you think? We send this to pilots with ISK and get them safer.
Your Dyadya,
Kartsev
